Investment Committee

About the Committee

The Investment Committee meets three to four times per year to oversee investments of the Society and to determine the long-term investment strategy for the Society. Committee members will also be involved in reviewing performance of the investment management company and periodically reviewing and adjusting the investment policy guidelines for Board approval. Each year, new members join the committee as the same number of members rotates off. This committee is chaired by a member serving their third year on the committee.

Students

This committee has one student as part of its composition. The student representative on this committee actively learns about the BSA investment strategy and gains a lot of insight into how the society manages their investments. A student on this committee may have previous knowledge on investment portfolios and thinking about the market, however this is not required. The ideal student representative for this committee should be willing to learn eough about investments to participate in the discussions and decisions of the committee.

Member Criteria

Committee membership is open to all BSA membership categories: emeritus, retired, professional, affiliate, postdoc, student, developing nation. It is preferable that members of the committee have previous knowledge on investment portfolios and thinking about the market, however this is not required. Committee members are expected to participate and be engaged in committee activities and have a genuine interest in the mission of the committee.

Time Commitment

At least three meetings per year, with one meeting normally taking place during the Botany conference. Members serve three-year terms, except for student members whose terms are for two years.
