BSA Young Botanist Awards
The purpose of this award is to offer individual recognition to outstanding graduating seniors in the plant sciences and to encourage their participation in the Botanical Society of America.
The top 25 nominees, whose selection will be based primarily on their accomplishments described in recommendation letters and any supporting materials, will receive a "Certificate of Special Achievement" from the Society, complimentary student membership for the rest of the calendar year and have their names published in the Plant Science Bulletin.
All other nominees with strong records of achievement (at least a 'B' average, and meritorious activity in plant biology) may receive a "Certificate of Recognition," complimentary student membership for the rest of the calendar year and have their names published in the Plant Science Bulletin.
Nominations should include:
- Nomination letter that documents the student’s qualifications for the award (academic performance, research projects, individual attributes);
- be accompanied by the student’s curriculum vitae or résumé́;
- include two letters of recommendation (separate and in addition to the nomination letter) from faculty well acquainted with the student.
All pieces should be submiited as one PDF document.
Nominations will open again in early 2025.

1994 YOUNG BOTANIST Award Recipients
The Young Botanist Award Program of the BSA recognizes the most outstanding graduating seniors in plant biology at each college or university. The achievements of the students selected for recognition were impressive both in and out of the formal classroom setting again this year. Botanists can be reassured that exceptionally motivated, talented, and interested students are pursuing plant studies across the U.S. and Canada.
