IBC TRAVEL SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS & POSTDOCS

This year, the BSA will provide 8 $1000 travel awards to support student and postdoc attendance to the International Botanical Congress (IBC), to be held in Madrid between 21-27 July 2024. BSA members worldwide are eligible for support, and priority will be given to students and postdocs that demonstrate financial need. Candidates who obtained their Ph.D. degree more than 3 years ago will not be considered. Applications will be assessed based on the quality of the abstract submitted to the IBC, scientific merit as inferred from the CV, the justification statement, and the creation of a diverse pool of awardees from varying geographies, types of institutions and organizations, various stages of career, etc.

Proposals must follow the guidelines below:

  1. The call for proposals is open between 20 February 2024 and 20 March 2024.
  2. Applicants must be BSA members at the time of the application submission to be eligible for a BSA travel award.
  3. Awards must be used to cover IBC registration, travel, or lodging expenses. Receipts will be needed for reimbursement.
  4. Proposals must include: 1) copy of the abstract submitted to the International Botanical Conference, (2) CV, and (3) a justification statement providing information on motivation to attend the meeting and why funds are needed to cover costs, including information on other funds available or funding requested from other sources.
  5. The CV should not exceed two pages (single-spaced, 12-type font).
  6. All documents must be submitted as one Portable Document Format (PDF).
  7. The application should be submitted via the BSA website using our awards portal.
  8. The travel awards will be distributed via US check or bank transfer upon confirmation of in-person attendance at the IBC in Madrid and submission of receipts totaling $1000 US.
  9. The selected awardees will be announced on the BSA web site and through e-mails to all of the applicants.

Current BSA members can access the awards portal by clicking here and logging in with your BotanyID/Password. Once signed in, click on the "2024 IBC Student and PostDoc Travel Award" link and you should see a blue button that says "+ Create New Nomination" at the bottom if your login was successful.
